Venice day trip
First day trip is in the books! To Venice, we went. I traveled with a group of girls from my university. We started our morning off bright and early with an 8 a.m. train ride, which honestly was my favorite part. Super easy to book and get through the train station. It was only about a 2:30 train ride from Florence which was so doable. Once we got off the train we headed straight to San Marco Plaza to get some good sightseeing in. The weekend we did this was Carnival, so we took in all the amazing outfits and masks some people and children were wearing.
We had not planned much before our day trip, which was not the best idea, but I had been to Venice and knew some of the sights. Eating was our most difficult task for the day because we were all craving brunch but there were not many options. I admiringly have to say we got stuck into a tourist trap restaurant paying way too much for the quality of the not-so-good food. Don’t eat in St. Marks Square whatever you do!
We hoped on a gondola to gain a better understanding of Florence and see the “floating city” from its canals. We walked near the Rialto Bridge to find a gondola to escape the crowds of San Marco’s Square. It was a lovely ride seeing the smaller canals as well as the Grand Canal. Our gondolier recommended we head to E Rosa Salva for Fritelle. It was a traditional pastry that had the same consistency as a donut but better!
All and all you really only need a day for Venice. Our train hoke was at 4:30 and we felt fulfilled leaving and happy with what we saw. Expect tourists and lots of them. Hiking the Bell Tower would’ve been a cool way to see the infrastructure of Venice in a neat way.
